Florida School Start Date Law:

Florida Statute 1001.42 (f)Opening and closing of schools; fixing uniform date.--Adopt policies for the opening and closing of schools and fix uniform dates; however, beginning with the 2007-2008 school year, the opening date for schools in the district may not be earlier than 14 days before Labor Day each year.

Who Are We? — Save our summers is a grassroots movement of parents, students, educators, and administrators opposed to the early school start dates in Florida.

What Are Our Goals?
To get state legislation passed that will mandate school start dates that are no earlier than the week before labor day.

- To spread our movement throughout the state of Florida.

- To educate interested people about the negative impact the early-August school start date and nontraditional school calendars have on our students, teachers and families alike.

-Second, through assignments to countywide representatives who will pass assignments on to anyone in their neighborhood interested in helping to get the message to our state government. Assignments will be simple, timely, and require a minimum of effort by each individual. However, when completed by "the masses", they will be an effective tool for getting and keeping our legislators focused on passing legislation to save our summers.
